The Youth Hostel and Bracken Tor are on the south side of Okehampton Town, on the edge of Dartmoor.
The Youth Hostel, is situated right on the northern edge of Dartmoor. It opened in 1997, in a converted Victorian Railway building in old goods yard of Okehampton Station. The station closed in 1960s as part of the widespread cuts of the Rail Network. In the mid 1990s various work sponsored by various public and private funding revitalised the station area.
This youth hostel is part of the YHA network within south-west of England. The highest peaks and the most remote areas in southern England are all within walking distance of the Youth Hostel. As an Enterprise hostel Adventure Okehampton are constantly seeking to improve the facilities that we offer to YHA members.
The station hosts the activity centre, as well as youth hostel accommodation with family bedrooms and dormitory rooms. The hostel holds a Visit Britain 3 star Activity Accommodation status, Walkers Welcome Award and Cyclists Welcome Award.
