Activities for Individuals

Had a fun session and want to develop your skills further in an activity, then take a specialised one day course with us.  We have a range of courses, some of which provide qualifications and others which are based at extending your experience and skills, providing the necessary experience for taking your interest further.

If you are a group of adults, such as Stag and Hen or birthday parties looking for a different type of weekend away, we offer different Multi-activity breaks which can customised to your requirements.

 

Intermediate Kayaking and Canoeing (BCU 2 star)

Intermediate Kayaking and Canoeing

Thinking about starting this exciting sport. If you've already been in a kayak or canoe and have mastered the basic strokes, then one of these course woould be suitable for you to extend these skills in a safe and fun way!

BCU 2 Star Course (2 day courses)

Dartmoor is a wonderful area with over 385 square miles of wilderness terrain, with many excellent Kayaking and Canoeing venues.This course has 2 full days starting with lake skills in kayak and canoe focussing on stroke development in a fun way. In this time you learn new strokes, self-rescue techniques, securing and launch safety.  Day 2 will test these skills on moving water as well as learning to tackling small rapids and portage techniques, as you move from the river into the canal.

Suitable for individuals and families (different certification process, but same techniques tested)

Accommodation is available at an extra cost for those who want to stay overnight.

2 Day course £99.00 per person (course tuiton only, accommodation extra)

You will require recent paddle experience in both kayaks and canoes order to successfully complete this course within 2 days. Other options would be to take both course, one to provide the training, and the second to complete the assessment process.

Kayaking in Devon (BCU 1 star)

 

This course is for people who want to try out kayaking and canoeing and gain a qualification.  It's the first course on a series of courses designed by BCU, as an introduction to paddlesports and we run some course suitable for families and others for individuals to gain skills in a safe and fun way!

1 day course

This course has 1 full day getting started in using a kayak and canoe focussing on developing confidence  in a fun way.  In this time you learn how to launch a canoe or kayak, how to paddle and steer as well as turning, dealing with capsizing and securing the vessel safety. This course takes place on our lakes.

Accommodation is available at an extra cost for those who want to stay overnight.

1 Day course £49.00 per person (course tuition only, accommodation extra)

Weekend course £99 per person (course only, accommodation extra)

2 day course

This course is aimed at Families, especially those with teenagers, who want to start kayaking and canoeing as a leisure past-time, and wish to extend their skills further than our taster half-day sessions.  It includes a day at our lakes, building the initial skills for the BCU 1 Star Award, where you learn how to launch a canoe or kayak, how to paddle and steer as well as turning, dealing with capsizing and securing the vessel safety.  Then to build your skills and confidence it is followed by a Paddle-day expedition down the River Exe and the Exeter Canal.

Our Instructors

A safe session extending your skills will be our priority. Several of our instructors are have advanced coaching certificates and spend their spare time exploring different white water rivers in south-west England, north Wales, and various countries around the world.

 

Weekends Away

Get away for the weekend on Dartmoor with a group of friends and take one of our multi-activity mini-breaks.  These can be done at any weekend of the year based on a minimum group size is 6.

These breaks can be tailored for all types of groups, ranging from team-building outcomes to a 'purely for fun' session. Suitable for Stag Parties, Hen Parties, Birthday treats, Get away from work, groups with 'Bootcamp' intentions, Scout and Guides, Team building sessions.

Choose from: Archery, Big Oke Abseil, Gorge Scrambling, High Ropes, Kayaking and Rock Climbing or add one of our Adventure Days, such as Paddle Expedition, Mountain Bike Day, Navigation, Rock Day.

2 nights Bed and Breakfast plus one activity session:   from £69 per person

2 nights Bed and Breakfast plus two activity sessions, 1 packed lunch and 1 evening meal: from £95 per person

 

Courses and Skills

Challenge yourself and learn some new skills under the watchful eyes of our instructors in the wonderful Devon countryside. We have a range of different training courses that allow you to extend your skills, varying from day courses, to a series of days over a period or weekend activity courses.  Some courses are entry level while others allow you to pursue a sport further and gain national certification.
