Moor Adventuring with Rotary International

"Moor Adventuring" challenge (also known as Rotary Youth Leadership Award: RYLA)

Each year brings another group of 16-18 year olds to Okehampton to try and win the coveted RYLA trophy. In July 2018 Adventure Okehampton will be hosting the 12th RYLA course at YHA Bracken Tor.  Each participant that comes is sponsored by one of the Rotary Clubs of Devon.  Most of them have never met before, so it can be a daunting prospect to work together doing an intensive adventure activity programme over the week.  It's no small feat to complete this course, as their time is packed full of activities, talks and leadership exercises, after a week, there's a combination of exhilaration and fatigue.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) recognised throughout the world run by Adventure Instructors under the guidance of business professionals and Rotarians. Successful attendance on the course also meets the Gold residential requirements for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Applications are still being welcomed from young people between the ages of 16-18 years who have the talent, energy and motivation. It is open to students, those in work or self employed people and it provides a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, have fun and make new friends.

Adventure 7

Building on the success of the RYLA course, over the last 3 years Rotary have taken on a new challenge for younger participants aimed at trying to build self-confidence and team awareness.  This week-long non-residential programme is for 11-13 years who live in Okehampton or the Hamlets region. The programme is managed in conjunction with Okehampton College. The Adventure 7 project takes place in August 2018.
