Tree doctor🌳🥸 special educational needs Teaching Assistant 🤠 & all round hyperactive bundle of fun. Ryan is new to our team this year & he's arrived with a bang!

Growing up, not feeling like he fitted into the mainstream classroom way of teaching, he instead enjoyed hobbies such as skydiving, bungee jumping & deep sea diving.
Ryan forged a path lead by his own personal interests, the desire to try new things & most importantly to enjoy what he's doing!

The need to be outdoors lead Ryan to study Arboriculture & Forest Management, particularly focussing on tree health & soil science, but in the background he still had a strong desire to work alongside people, so he started to study Child & Adolescent mental health issues.
He'd felt so misunderstood & misdirected during his school years that he wanted to make a difference to children in the same situation, so he gaining a qualification & started working as a special educational needs Teaching Assistant.

But then what!?...

Well, he's found a way to merge his desire to be outdoors with his interest in working alongside people.
When talking about his new job, he says... "I enjoy seeing people explore the world & going further than they thought was ever possible. Your boundaries are as far as you push them".

Most recently, he's been taking in parts of our beautiful Dartmoor National Park and helping others to train for the Hill & Moorland Leader qualification.
A fabulous hike from the town of Postbridge to the ancient Wistmans Wood, with some diligent mapwork in between has helped other instructors gain confidence jn themselves & their leadership abilities!

We're delighted his next step has been with us as an Outdoor Activity Instructor. The experience, knowledge, & understanding he brings to the team is an invaluable asset! Not to mention, our wood pile has never looked so well stocked 🪓😆

🌱🪵 WILDLIFE AREA UPDATE 🌷🪳Back in Autumn 2025, we took part in a project by Devon Wildlife Trust, as part of the Big Autumn Sow! Here's a little update!No mowing has allowed a carpet of green to form, with the trees behind becoming more established & different varieties of plants emerging.We were hoping for a carpet of colour, but with the heat of the Summer it hasn't produced that meadow type feel quite yet. Still, it's providing a sheltered habitat for all kinds of creatures & we'll continue to develop our little nature patch!On top of that, management have been busy with a little veggie planter of their own.
